Prior to becoming a literary agent, Trena Keating worked in publishing houses for 15 years. As Editor-in-Chief of Dutton and Associate Publisher of Plume, both imprints of Penguin, she worked with such award-winning and bestselling writers as Jenna Blum, Harriet Scott Chessman, Tracy Chevalier, Lori Gottlieb, Jane Green, Peter Hedges, Diane Johnson, Jill Kargman, Jenny McCarthy, Greg Palast, Eva Rice, and Rachel Simon. As Associate Publisher of Plume, she worked with an expansive list of esteemed authors including E.L. Doctorow, Toni Morrison, and Joyce Carol Oates. Before joining Penguin, Keating was Senior Editor at Harper Collins working with, among others, Kaylie Jones, Rebecca Wells, and Matt Groening. She began her career at Stanford University Press.
Trena launched Keating Literary to focus on a select list of writers (see Authors). While established and esteemed writers are the backbone of her literary agency, she takes great pleasure in finding new writers.
